Indonesia to Implement Import Licensing for Pears Starting May 8
Beginning May 8, 2026, Indonesia will require import licensing for pears. Under the new regulation, issued by Indonesia’s Ministry of Trade (MOT), pre-shipment inspection is also now required for pears.
According to the USDA Foreign Agricultural Service (FAS), importers only need to apply directly with the Ministry of Trade for an import license for pears. No recommendation from the Ministry of Agriculture is required.
Shipments loaded on vessels prior to May 8 are exempt under a transitional period.
More information can be found in this FAS report. Additional details on exporting pears to Indonesia can be found in the NHC Export Manual.

Background: On April 21, 2026, Indonesia’s MOT issued Regulation No. 11 of 2026. The regulation takes effect 14 days after issuance – May 8, 2026. Indonesia expanded the regulated commodity list from seven to eleven product groups, bringing four previously uncontrolled categories – including pears – under Indonesia’s full import licensing regime.
