Indonesia Restricts Access for U.S. Apples

Indonesia will restrict access for U.S. apple shipments with bill of lading dates on or after April 16, 2024. Restrictions include no entry through the port of Tanjung Priok, and new inspection, testing, sampling, and documentation requirements. Full details on what the restrictions and requirements entail, however, have not been provided.

These new restrictions result from Indonesia excluding apples from the renewed recognition of U.S. Fresh Food of Plant Origin (FFPO). The reason for the exclusion of apples from the FFPO is unclear.

The Northwest Horticultural Council is seeking assistance from USDA Foreign Agricultural Service and Office of the U.S. Trade Representative to understand the situation and Indonesia’s requirements.
