Northwest Horticultural Council
The need for a stable, legal workforce is a critical issue for Pacific Northwest tree fruit growers and packers, and the NHC has long advocated for a legislative solution that meets both current and future labor needs.
The trustees of the Northwest Horticultural Council (NHC) voted on October 28, 2019, to support the introduction, and passage by the House Judiciary Committee and then the House of Representatives, of the Farm Workforce Modernization Act, with the proviso that the NHC will seek further improvements to this legislation in the Senate.
This legislation passed the House on December 11, 2019. While the bill was not acted upon by the Senate before the 116th Congress adjourned, it was reintroduced in the 117th Congress and again passed the House on March 18, 2021.
