Northwest Horticultural Council
The need for a stable, legal workforce is a critical issue for Pacific Northwest tree fruit growers and packers, and the NHC has long advocated for a legislative solution that meets both current and future labor needs.
The trustees of the Northwest Horticultural Council voted on July 16, 2018, to support passage of legislation (now referred to as H.R. 6417, the “AG and Legal Workforce Act”) by the House of Representatives that advances the workforce needs of the tree fruit industry. While the NHC intends to seek further improvements to this legislation in areas such as the treatment of the current workforce as the legislative process progresses to the Senate, we believe passage of this bill by the House is a strong step forward by Congress in addressing the tree fruit industry’s labor needs.
